Dr. Tufan Eroldogan presented a projects results on the pehonic response of gilthead sea bream fed with different types of microplastics (MPs) in IFFO Members Meeting in Madrid, 12-14 May 2025 (event link: https://www.iffo.com/members-meeting-2025). IFFO’s 2025 Members’ Meeting concluded on 14 May with a record 267 delegates from 36 countries attending the two-day event. Held in Madrid, the meeting featured 21 speakers discussing global market trends, the role of marine ingredients in animal farming, and their impact on human health.
During the event, as invited speaker, Dr. Eroldogan present some projects results of Aquaspin and IFFO on MPs in finfish, particularly gilthead sea bream and salmon. As known, MNPs are increasingly being recognised as pollutants of concern because of their accumulation in diverse environmental systems, including oceanic and freshwater bodies, the atmosphere, terrestrial environments, and biological organisms. In his presentation, he addressed how MPs can be potential problems in the aquafeed industry. He discussed the recent findings on the effects of different MP types, particularly major types, on sea bream and Atlantic salmon growth and digestibility, as well as some health indicators. He also presented datasets showing global fishmeal MP contamination.
